Still Stranded in UK

We just received an email around midnight UK time from my sister (we affectionately call "GB" because my daughter, Trinity couldn't pronounce her name "Geraldine") - the subject line said simply "Gatwick Reopens" (which is one of the London airports) and when we opened it, it said simply "GB go home?"

She is missing her hubby & kids, but geesh, she is having a great time galavanting around the countryside of England.  She has galavanted all around the downs of Sussex, train rides all over England & been in the Yorkshire moors in Bronte country.

We have been trying to orchestrate the reprotection of a ticket from here as she was getting the runaround over there.  We were bounced around from Expedia to Air Transat back and forth for hours as each one INSISTED the other is to co-ordinate the rebooking! A lesson in patience to be sure!  However, they didn't know that I have been dealing with the Canadian Immigration Department for almost 20 years!! They met their match!! Anyhoo, there is of course a huge backlog (I read 7 million stranded), so we are hoping in the next few days that we may see the wandering Nomad again with all her tales!! We don't feel like she really left though - the constant contact to us through the iphone and ipad.  At last count it was 63 emails just for today alone with pics & vids today - ya she hasn't lost her "papparazzi" touch!

Here are a few pics of what she sent me today:

               Missing someone?

                                         A car for me!!

            A house for me!

Ha Ha - kids liked that one!

                                                                                                Snicker Snicker

This cross is from the 600's. !!

GB was in Haworth (Bronte Country) for a couple of days and visited the Museum and Parsonage etc. This is the church that Reverend Patrick Bronte looked after.

I was very jealous!  Years ago on a trip to England I wanted to see Haworth - I must have taken a train near there up to Scotland, but for some reason I didn't stop there!

  1. I read that your sister is stranded and having troubles with Air Transat. My husband and I were scheduled to take a flight home to Toronto from Manchester via Air Transat on April 26th. We had taken a cruise to Rome and were stranded there, unable to get to the UK. We lucked upon a flight home to Toronto (used Expedia to find it) so we took it, sadly missing the UK portion of our vacation.
I've been trying to contact Transat to let them know that we won't be using our seats. Finally today spoke to a rep. Bottom line: They don't want to allow any changes to their bookings at this point. When I pointed out that they have stranded passengers in the UK who would love to get a seat to Toronto on the 26th, the rep said there wasn't anything she could do. How's that for caring about your customers!?
It's nice to know that some folks are able to enjoy being stranded, but from first hand experience I can tell you that lots of people are really having a horrible time because they're stranded in a place where they dont' have friends or family. They are completely dependent on the airlines to help them. Some airlines are doing a great job. eg. KLM has provided cots, water, underwear etc. to 1300 stranded passengers at the Amsterdam airport. Air Transat on the other hand has a lousy website with no info so you are forced to speak to a rep. The reps have nothing to say that couldn't be said on the website anyway. Sad, sad, sad .... customer loyalty will take a beating for sure.

  2. Air Transat is absolutely lacking in customer service and organizational skills. I agree wholeheartedly. The Gatwick Airport website and twitter feed kept saying "Don't come to the airport." (?) We wondered where all those poor people were staying. It's a shame they had to pay out extra money for accomodation (my sister did that too up in Yorkshire at 85 pounds a night!) Shame the way it was all handled. The Canadian Embassy was of little use as well to her. I feel for you - that is such a pity that you missed the London portion of your trip. Try to pursue some sort of reimbursement with them, although I think this is going to be a nightmare for most
